What can you expect in a session?
An acupuncture session takes approximately 40 minutes, although the first session takes longer because you will be asked questions about your condition and a short medical history will be taken. Then the practitioner will look at your tongue and take your pulse to confirm the diagnosis.
You will lie on a comfortable futon, and make sure that you wear loose clothing and be prepared to remove as much as may be necessary for the needles to be inserted. Do not be surprised if you come to have a frozen shoulder treated and the acupuncturist inserts needles in your ankle!
The needles will usually remain in for about ten to fifteen minutes, during which time you relax and listen to soothing music. Then the needles are removed and the treatment is complete.
Do not plan to do anything too energetic immediately afterwards, to allow the treatment to have maximum effect.
